Display Bench
Created for Archive to highlight the work of fellow artisans, this piece explores a series of intersecting lines and structural relationships. Built from offcuts sourced from Dunable Guitars and remnants from the Little Fawn project, it employs several traditional joinery methods, including sliding dovetails, half-laps, and tusked tenons that secure the display shelves to the main body. Sliding dovetails provide rigidity and strength while preserving the clean geometry of the composition.
Paired beautifully with the exterior benches made from salvaged redwood slabs, the piece explores the abutment of two planes — a notorious failure point in modern design. The sliding dovetail allows these intersections to remain stable without sacrificing visual clarity.
Redwood Bench Pair
Three pieces of wood, cut from the same log, showcase the simplicity of the form. The style is simple; the execution is not. By wedging the wood into itself, friction and geometry keep the structure stable and enduring.
Our natural hardwax oil highlights the beauty of the unique grain. These penetrating oils soak into the surface, allowing mineral deposits and chatoyance to shimmer vibrantly—reflecting light not from a film laid over the wood, but from the raw beauty of the material itself.
